IWC China 2020 Awards Dinner

The IWC China 2020 Awards Dinner is on 11 September 2020 at St. Regis Shanghai Jingan, Shanghai.

It's time for the wine trade to come together to celebrate the best of the IWC China 2020 including the announcement of the Champion Wines and the Chinese Winemaker of the Year awards.

Joseph's Estate Wines Icewine Vidal 2012 by Joseph's Estate

The judges said this wine had very ripe yellow plums, elderflower and fruit cake aromas, followed by lively acidity and a lovely viscous texture. Highly concentrated, long, sweet finish with notes of blossom and quince.

The IWC judges said this wine had abundant complexity, with camomile, verbena tea, bruised apple, lime and yeast lees aromas. Well-judged sweetness brilliantly balanced by marked, vibrant acidity with savoury complex length. Very fine mousse.

Intensely fragrant with wood-smoke and dried fruit aromas. Almost dry on the palate, with a whisper of raisined sweetness. Tremendous, nutty complexity, with dried dates and spicy tobacco notes, and a smooth, concentrated palate. Elegant, long, fragrant finish.

An astonishingly youthful wine, in colour, aromatics and flavours. Both nose and palate show pure blackcurrant fruit with subtle notes of eucalyptus, tobacco and mint. It's full bodied with firm, ripe tannins and great length.

Fine, very pure Mosel Riesling, with a hint of spritz to underline the freshness. Lemon and chalky minerality, a little sweetness balanced by mouth watering acidity. Bright and intense, with great depth of flavour and a long finish.

This is the first time that Yan Zhang has won the Chinese Winemaker of the Year award. In 2019, he was awarded 2 Trophies, 2 Golds, 2 Silvers, and 1 Bronze medals.

Modern fruit forward style with concentrated intense strawberry and plum aromas. Palate is rich with lively acidity and fine tannins with a lingering finish.

This wine was pale pink, fresh and fruity. Crushed strawberry and raspberry with herbal nuances. Elegant and quite dry, lovely and delicious.
